The Reason for Missions

As Jesus prepared to leave the earth to return to His Father in heaven, He gave His final instructions to His disciples. These instructions were:

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

– Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV)

Church Missions Activities

FSCC strives to reach out to the community. We have several ministries in place to fulfill local needs and help families on a day to day basis. Below is a listing of some of those ministries.

Food Pantry

The food pantry provides a supplementary source of food for the needy in our community throughout the year.  The food pantry is located at the Family Life Center and is open on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 5:00 – 6:00 PM. For the first half of FY 2017, the Food Pantry has served approximately 100 families, totaling near 350 people. Time and again, our FSCC congregation has come through with generous food and monetary donations for this wonderful ministry. Members of the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and residents of The Hillsdale Apartment Complex and Hillcrest Green Apartments, have also made generous contributions.

Holiday Baskets

We have so much to be thankful for. A Savior, a Church, and most of us can be thankful that we have plenty of food. The missions committee coordinates Fresh Start’s efforts to help the less fortunate at Thanksgiving and Christmas by giving turkey or ham baskets to those whose holiday dinners may not include an abundance.  Again, our FSCC family came through with generous gifts of food and money. The Women’s, and also the 50+ ministries sponsored events to raise awareness and significant donations. For both holidays, the Food Basket ministry served 80 families totaling near 240 people. Church family and friends, Food Pantry patrons, and families of students from Central Elementary and Central Junior High Schools were among the recipients.

Missions Bake Sale

The missions bake sale is held annually. You can choose from a variety of delicious baked goods – with all proceeds going towards the missions efforts of the Church.

Missionary Visits

Missionaries visit Fresh Start from time to time. During these visits, they usually speak to a Wednesday evening class or a Sunday connections class. These visits provide a great opportunity to learn about both the challenges and opportunities associated with taking the message of Christ to those who haven’t had the opportunity to hear the Gospel. The last official visit was made by our worker in Eurasia in the fall of 2015. The changing political climate of the area where the Apostle Paul walked and the life-threatening challenges the ministry faces were highlighted.

Missions Opportunities

A mission trip involving the FSCC congregation (adults and youth) serving at Hope Hill, KY is in the embryo stages of planning for the summer of 2017. Fundraisers are being planned and sponsors are needed. Call the church office at (405) 794-7313 to contact Pastor Brian Marlett, Pastor Aaron Shackleton, or George Hanohano if you are interested.
