The Reason for Missions
As Jesus prepared to leave the earth to return to his Father in heaven, He gave his final instructions to his disciples...
"All
authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore
go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey
everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always,
to the very end of the age."
Matthew 28:18 NIV

Other Missions Activities
Missions
is all about meeting people's needs. Our primary need is for a
Savior... and helping to meet pressing worldly needs allows us to
actively show the love of God to those around us.
| Food Pantry |
The food pantry serves as a supplementary source of food for the needy in our community throughout the year. The
food pantry is located at the Family Life Center and is open from 5:30
- 6:30PM on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month. In 2011, the food pantry
provided assistance to 323 families, representing a total of 1335 people.
|
| Thanksgiving Baskets |
We
have so much to be thankful for. A Savior, a Church, and most of
us can be thankful that we have plenty of food. The missions
committee coordinates Fresh Start's efforts to help the less fortunate
at Thanksgiving by giving turkey or ham baskets to those whose
Thanksgiving may not include an abundance this year. In 2011, the Church provided baskets to
50 families.
|
| Mission Bake Sale |
The
mission bake sale is held in early December. You can choose from
a variety of delicious baked goods - with all proceeds going towards
the missions efforts of the Church.
| | Angel Tree |
Kids
love Christmas! Most of us adults do, too! But Christmas
can be a very trying time for imprisoned parents and their children.
Angel Tree shows the love of Christ to these separated families
by providing both useful and fun gifts to children with one or both
parents incarcerated. In 2011, the Church accepted 42 angels,
providing a toy and a clothing gift to 21 children. Look for
information concerning Angel Tree
in November.
| | Christmas Dinner Baskets |
I
can't imagine Christmas without overeating! Yet famililes in our
own neighborhoods find themselves without an adequate Christmas dinner.
The missions committee coordinates the Church's efforts to meet
the needs of these families by providing Christmas Dinner Baskets.
In 2011, the Church provided baskets to 28 families.
|
| Missionary Visits |
Missionaries
visit Fresh Start from time to time. During these visits, they
usually speak to a Wednesday evening class or a Sumday morning Sunday
School class. These visits provide a great opportunity to learn
about both the challenges and opportunities associated with taking the
message of Christ to those who haven't had the opportunity to hear His
message. Look for these events in your worship folder and make it
a point to attend.
| | Missions Trips |
Although no missions trips are scheduled at this time, in-country and foreign short term missions trips are being considered. |
